Is day case surgery safe?

I think the key word here is “unregulated”. Although this article refers to Australia, the trends are very similar to those we see in the UK. Surgery per se is moving to more day case procedures. There is nothing inherently wrong in that as long as there is careful consideration given by the surgeon to the patient, the procedure and the location for the treatment. My opinion is that more regulation is needed for our industry. There simply is not enough to prevent unscrupulous operators from entering and setting up in business.
As an established surgeon with many years in private practice, I have always erred on the cautious side and many procedures I will only do under a general anaesthetic. The welfare of my patients is my guiding principle. That will never change.
I stress many times that cosmetic surgery is a big step for anybody. It should not be taken lightly. You should not be rushed into surgery, nor enter into it without a lot of consideration.
