Maximising the longevity of your facelift

fitness-332278_960_720If you have undergone any type of surgery, one of your first questions will probably be, how long will the results last?

Surgeons tend to agree that the results of a facelift are expected to last between five and ten years, so in terms of maximising the longevity of your facelift, there are some simple lifestyle choices you can make to help give your new appearance the best opportunity to remain looking fresh and firm.

Adopt a good face care regime

As obvious as this sounds, it is important to get into a good routine when it comes to looking after your face. Ensure that you’re not using products that are too harsh or contain too many chemicals.

Wash, exfoliate and moisturise regularly, and don’t be afraid to ask dermatologists for their advice when it comes to finding the right moisturiser for your skin type.

Avoid smoking

Smoking negatively affects the skin, and accelerates the appearance of aging. If you can cut back, or ideally avoid smoking all together it will help maintain the newly enhanced features from your facelift.

Be careful with sun exposure

It is well known that too much sun can make your skin look older, so take care not to overdo the basking when then sun comes out. Wearing sun protection cream is advised, in fact can you can also find daily moisturisers that contain small amounts of sun cream (SPF15 is ideal) which means you’re always ensuring your face is protected from harmful UV rays.

Avoid rapid weight gain/loss

One of the most common contributing factors that results in your skin losing its natural firmness and elasticity is weight gain and loss. This process exacerbates the ageing process, and can make your face look as if it is carrying excess skin.

Take good care of your overall health

Finally, ensuring that you are eating a well balanced diet and exercising regularly will help your skin no end. Eating a vitamin- and mineral- enriched diet will work wonders for the health of your skin, hair and overall sense of well-being.

Exercising regularly will also help boost your immune system and help you feel generally fitter and with more energy.

All of these factors will contribute to helping the longevity of your facelift, and generally help you feel healthier and happier.
